A Safe, Affordable Place to Call Home

Did you know that Washington is one of the top 10 most expensive housing markets in the country? To find a safe place to call home in areas of opportunity—where you can find jobs, use public transportation, and access needed services—is difficult for many people, even working families. Once housing costs exceed 30% of your income, it becomes near impossible to cover your other basic expenses. That’s why Community Action provides a network of housing services to help people in need secure affordable housing.

Scott’s Story

“I spent all of my life in California in the music industry from an early age. Later I owned a business near Lake Tahoe, and due to a bunch of crazy circumstances, I lost everything. I became homeless for three years and finally my brother, who lives in Oroville, WA, offered to bring me up here and help me get some peace and closure with all of the depression I was going through. Community Action was the one that stepped forward, qualified me to get a grant so that my rent would be paid for several months. Everybody really cared. They made me feel like my life counts and that I matter. Without their help, I would still be homeless. They’ve changed my life in every way.”
